A frustrated bride has revealed how her mother-in-law ruined her wedding day.
The anonymous woman explained that her and her wife, who live in Portugal, had eloped to Gibraltar with her mother-in-law as their sole witness.
But everything quickly went down hill when the woman started acting like a “brat.”
Not only did she spend the ceremony flirting with the young man who was shadowing their officiant, but she also asked the bride whether she could wear her wedding dress for her own big day, despite being 70lbs heavier and 3in taller.
Stunned by the request, the bride took to the Facebook group That’s It I’m Wedding Shaming to share her story – and members were quick to defend her.
Unfortunately the day didn’t start on a high, as she broke down in tears at the thought of her family not being there to celebrate her special day.
Although she wanted them to be there, she was forced to uninvite them all.
She explained that since her brother is homophobic and she didn’t want him at the wedding, she decided it’d be best if she didn’t invite anyone at all.
As the morning went on, her mother-in-law – who had opted to wear a black dress (something the bride found incredibly odd) – didn’t make matters any easier as she refused to help the bride get ready before herself.
She added: “I was already in the other room crying, and a teardrop went down my face, and fell on my dress lightly staining it with foundation, which took me on a downward spiral of going from silently crying to violently sobbing.”
Thankfully her wife-to-be came to give her a helping hand so that the celebrations could begin.
The ceremony was beautiful and went ahead as planned, until the bride noticed her mother-in-law trying her hardest to get the attention of the only other witness there – something she continued to do throughout the duration of it.
She continued: “She was a brat for the rest of the day and made me feel awful for most of the day, so we just went home early and I just took the dress off, put it away and it’s been in my closet since.”
But that’s not even the worst part… Her mother-in-law had text her daughter to ask on her behalf whether she could borrow her wife’s wedding dress for her own big day.
And it pushed her over the edge.
After the wedding the pair didn’t speak for months because the mother-in-law and the intern began dating reported the Daily Mail.
But eventually they made amends.
She concluded: “Even though I have no hard feelings over that day, I still think it’s super weird that she’d ask me for the dress that I wore in a day she ruined.”
Whilst some Facebook users insisted that the woman can do what she wants with her dress, others said that her mother-in-law should find her own, and even if it did fit her she isn’t entitled to wear it.
